The Copper Collaborative, a team consisting of representatives from Freeport-McMoRan, the Village of Santa Clara, City of Bayard, and the Town of Hurley, held their first Mining District Community Cleanup Battle on Saturday, October 28, 2023. Each community battled it out to see who cleaned the most. Residents received a raffle ticket for each filled bag of trash brought to a dumpster during the competition hours of 8am – 2pm. After the competition, each community drew three names for $100 cash prizes and then combined the raffle tickets for a grand prize drawing of $500.
Santa Clara won the battle, collecting a total of 1.64 tons of trash, Bayard came in second with .37 tons, and Hurley at .33 tons.
We appreciate everyone who came out and participated in the event. It was a tremendous success and hopefully something we will continue to do in the future.
